He explains that he wanted to write a short article on the topic of Universal Basic Income because he doesn't know how to do it and wants to learn more about it. While I haven't read this article, I've also read a similar one from Brian Kibler where he talks about the link between free and compulsory education.In his essay, Brian Kibler explains why it is that college education is not free, and why many times the government will require you to go to college in order to get a job. In his essay, James Hughes focuses on the wealth effect, the effects of slavery, and of course the negative side of income taxes.The third option is to just go to college, which is a free college education. James Hughes points out that while this is indeed a possibility, it does not account for the wealth effect, which is the difficulty of passing off your work into someone else t o do for you. Additionally, he argues that in time, you would find yourself out of a job, because you could not 'catch up' and keep up with your college education. The wealth effect is caused by the fact that once you've got a job, then it's not very easy to change positions or employers.With this, he states that it's time to find a more common sense system. He gives the example of being able to have food on the table for the family without having to worry about whether they're going to be able to pay their bills. This can't be done with the current system.An essential aspect to the other two ideas is that they both have to be used when working people are involved in them. When the state is in charge of all the means of production, everyone cannot have freedom, even though they can still have freedom when they are doing things the 'right' way.In this day and age, we have learned a lot about how government can help relieve some of the stress on our current economic situation. In a wa y, using it to eliminate the need for us to be dependent on government to help us is a good thing. Since so many people are working for minimum wage, this might be the most likely solution, but we really don't know what that solution should be until it happens.In a future article, I'll be looking at some different things. The idea of actually offering incentives to people who are willing to work hard to earn a living is one of the things I'm interested in. If you enjoy the work, then why not offer an incentive for it?In a time where we're all working for minimum wage or possibly next to nothing, I'm not so sure that paying someone to do work for them and provide for them is a good thing. Hopefully we can get there someday, but until then, it would be nice to know that we have some alternatives.
